Frequently Asked Question

Can I use a thermochemical data-file created using FactSage with ChemApp under Linux?
Last Updated 4 years ago

Using FactSage, you can create 2 types of thermochemical data-files that can be used with ChemApp, and software built on ChemApp:

  • CST files: this is the default file format when exporting data from databases maintained using FactSage for ChemApp. CST files are binary files that cannot be changed by the user. In order to use these CST files with any ChemApp version on Linux, a conversion of the file by GTT is currently necessary. The reason is that there is no one single standard for binary formatted data that all Fortran compilers support. If you have such a CST file that you would like to use on a Linux system, please create a support ticket and attach your CST file.
  • DAT files: export to this plain-text ASCII format is generally only possible if the data sources are your own private databases (some exceptions apply). You can copy such a thermochemical file in DAT format to your Linux system, convert the line endings to Unix standards, and it will be readable by ChemApp running under Linux.

Please note that ChemApp "light", and any software built on ChemApp "light" is not able to read CST files, whether on Windows or Linux systems.
