GTT HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe fails with an error "Cannot open HASP driver"
Last Updated a year ago

If you've received instructions from us to perform a dongle license upgrade for a PWDX file using the GTT Remote update system (RUS) utility HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe and you receive a series of error messages as shown below when you press the Get Dongle ID>>> button:

The cause of this is the dongle driver incompatibility issue and to fix this, the current dongle driver must be completely uninstalled, and a previous version of the driver must be installed. The instructions to do so are as follows:

  1. Download and unzip the latest command line HASP Runtime environment installer from here.
  2. Open a Command prompt window with Administrator rights and navigate to the folder where you earlier unzipped the downloaded installer and in to the subfolder where haspdinst.exe is present.
  3. Run the command haspdinst.exe -kp -fss -purge to completely uninstall the previous dongle driver
  4. Next, download, unzip and install the slightly older dongle driver v8.31 from here using the command haspdinst.exe -kp -fss -i -ld
  5. Once the dongle’s LED lights up, run your program and see if it works. You could also check your dongle with our LicenseInfo utility available for download from here. If it's able to read the license data, it means that the previous steps were successful.
  6. (Optional) Using the same command line installer you downloaded in the first step, you can update the dongle drivers to the latest version with legacy support by running the command haspdinst.exe -kp -fss -i -ld

After performing the above steps, you should now be able to successfully perform the dongle license upgrade using the PWDX file you received from GTT.
