RUS AQWDB dongle update instructions
Last Updated a year ago

The instructions to extend the licenses as well as the generic instructions to use the attached *.pwdx file to update the dongle’s licenses are described below.

If applicable, these steps have to be repeated with the other dongles using the corresponding *.pwdx files.

Instructions to update the dongle licenses:

The dongle license update procedure can be carried on any PC with Windows OS version installed from XP to Windows 11.

The license update password file which was delivered to you as an attachment with the .pwdx extension for your dongle must be programmed into the dongle using the HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe utility.

The *.pwdx file is named according to the dongle id that is retrieved and displayed by the HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe utility in step 5 in the instructions below.

This HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe utility for the AQWDB dongles is packaged as a zip file and can be downloaded from here. Please unzip all the folder contents into a separate folder and run the exe LicenseInfo-AQWDB.exe to scan the dongle and it's licenses.

The downloaded zipped archive contains 4 files which includes 3 DLLs and the executable program.

The DLLs are required for the program to run and must be in the same folder or in a folder defined by the system path.

Steps to update the dongle license:

  1. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip attachment HASP4_RUS_Customer.zip to a temporary folder.

  2. Save the .pwdx license password file email attachments into the same temporary folder as in the previous step.

  3. Plug in the dongle whose licenses are to be updated. Make sure that this is the only dongle connected to the PC at this time and that the dongle LED lights up.

  4. Navigate to the extracted zipped folder and run the exe program, “HASP4_RUS_Customer.exe”.
(The program requires .NET v 2.0 installed and on most computers it should already be preinstalled. In case the program doesn’t run and you are prompted to download and install .NET v2.0, then it can be downloaded from here)

  5. Once the program runs, click on Get Dongle ID button to retrieve the dongle ID.
(Click on “Display Dongle ID as HEX value” checkbox to see the dongle ID in HEX format as the LicenseInfo utility if installed, displays the dongle ID).

NOTE: If you receive an error "Cannot open HASP driver", then perform these steps first to get the most up-to-date dongle driver.

  6. Click Browse RUS Code to open the file select window to select the corresponding dongle license update code, “*.pwdx” and click Open.

  7. The license update code should be loaded into the ‘Code’ textbox.

  8. Finally, click on the Perform Update button in the program to update the dongle licenses. The dongle should now have updated licenses.

To verify the new license and check the new license expiration date, use the LicenseInfo (for AQWDB dongles) utility, which can be downloaded from here. To run the program, unzip all the zip folder contents which you downloaded into a separate folder and run the exe LicenseInfo-AQWDB.exe to scan the dongle and it's licenses, which should now also list the updated licenses which you just performed in the above steps using the PWDX file.
